New York might be known as ‘the city that never sleeps’ but it’s also the perfect place to sit back and let the world carry on around you. Take in wonderful vistas and enjoy the most delicious of foods in the coolest of places…
Places to stay
Book a high-floor King room at The Hotel on Rivington and you’ll be waking up – and showering – to a view of the New York skyline. If that doesn’t get you in the mood (er, to sight-see), then we don’t know what will.
Take your man (and his wallet) to Fifth Avenue for the best selection of shops. High street stores H&M, Urban Outfitters and Mango can be found near the junction of 34th Street. Then head over to Third Avenue to hit the infamous Bloomingdales.
Food and drink
A romantic brunch at Pastis in the heart of the Meatpacking District is a great start to the day. We recommend the Eggs Benedict. Or perhaps the aphrodisiac Oysters to share.
The posh Lobby Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental is perfect for pre-dinner drinks, while looking over the skyline at . Then jump on the subway to the Blue Smoke barbeque at the Flatiron building, where they play live jazz all evening.
Places to visit
Get off the subway at 81st Street and work your way up to Belvedere Castle in Central Park, where you can take in a rooftop view of the area. Just next door is the Delacorte Theatre, which often puts on Shakespeare in the Park productions.
The 20 minute walk across Brooklyn Bridge is perfect for a sunset stroll. When you get halfway, spin round and check out the city view. This is New York at its most romantic.
Complete your experience with a theatre show on or around Broadway.
